EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION IN HIGH-STRESS SITUATIONS

The New Mexico State Police Crisis Negotiation Team operates under the Special Operations Bureau. The members of this team are specifically trained in resolving critical incidents involving those who may be in crisis. Members of the Crisis Negotiations Team are trained to de-escalate potentially volatile situations by listening and talking to people. Ā  These officers are often called to assist the Tactical Team to help bring a peaceful resolution and offer alternative approaches to critically high-stress incidents. Ā  The Crisis Negotiations Team members often train other officers in Crisis Intervention techniques so that other officers can speak with citizens and offer them mental health services.
