New Mexico State Police Cracks Down on DWI and Dangerous Driving in McKinley County

McKinley County, NM – On September 22, 2023, New Mexico State Police officers in Gallup along with the New Mexico State Police Aircraft Section helicopter ‘ABLE 7’ teamed up with the Gallup Police Department and McKinley County Sheriff’s Office to ENDDWI in McKinley County and stop the devastation caused by dangerous driving and street racing Gallup, NM.

 

The operation was held over the weekend of September 22 into the early morning hours of September 24. It involved a DWI sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrols around Gallup.

 

During the operation, New Mexico State Police officers made a total of 76 traffic stops and issued over 80 traffic citations.  Those citations included 1 DWI arrest, 28 speeding tickets, 2 child restraint violations, 2 stop sign violations, and 2 seatbelt violations to name a few.

 

The New Mexico State Police will continue to conduct proactive operations like these throughout the year. We encourage the public to slow down and always wear their seatbelt.  Motorist should report suspected criminal activity or street racing to their local law enforcement agencies or the New Mexico State Police.
